Bringing Up Boys.
Your ultimate roadmap for raising the next generation of men.
Hi, I’m Dr. Taylor Rathus.
I’m a mom, hold a PhD in Human Development & Family Sciences, and am the founder of Bringing Up Boys.
I take everything I know about gender development, masculinity norms, mindful parenting, and family systems to translate my knowledge into a method for raising boys with positive masculinity.
I combine real-life parenting experiences with my expertise in these topics and my commitment to dismantling toxic masculinity.
Bringing Up Boys supports boy parents in raising compassionate, empathetic, expressive, and strong men. I’m here to provide resources for nurturing a newer, more positive form of masculinity. Gender norms are unavoidable, but they don’t have to be harmful.
The Foundation of Bringing Up Boys.
I support boy parents in raising compassionate, empathetic, expressive, and strong men.
-
Teach boys to recognize and validate emotions in themselves and in others. Embracing emotion can help boys develop a deeper understanding of empathy, fostering kindness, compassion, and connection.
-
Nurture boys' inner strength and resilience. Teach them to embrace traditional masculine qualities like determination, perseverance, self-confidence, and the ability to overcome challenges. Strength especially includes the socioemotional aspects of boys' development.
-
Challenge the societal expectations about what it means to be a boy or a man. Encourage boys to explore a broad range of interests, emotions, and behaviors that are free from the constraints of traditional gender norms and stereotypes.
-
Nurture boys' ability to navigate challenges, setbacks, and adversity with a compassionate, resilient mindset. Promote strength and resilience without resorting to aggressive or harmful behavior.
-
Instill the understanding and practice of treating others with dignity, fairness, and consideration. Teach boys to value and honor the inherent worth and rights of every individual, irrespective of their gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic.
